Faithful Dog Hachiko
A popular tourist destination in Tokyo is the statue of faithful dog Hachiko outside of Shibuya Station. Hachiko was an Akita belonging to a professor at the University of Tokyo in the 1920s. Each evening the dog would go to the train station to greet the professor on the way home. Even after his owner died in 1925, Hachiko continued to go and wait at the train station each evening... for eleven more years. Hachiko was present at the dedication of the first statue back in 1934.
This is all very timely, because Variety says that Richard Gere is producing and starring in the movie "Hachiko: A Dog's Story". I'm as fond of dogs as the next guy, but I'm thinking the part of the movie covering the last eleven years might be a little slow.

Maybe they will find a nice way to wrap up the last 11 years without dragging it out. I hate these types of movies... Mum always cries like a baby!
Is Richard Gere playing the dog? Hopefully he won't cause another incident like he did in India.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Nugget,
Yeah, maybe they can do one of those fast-motion sequences for the eleven years, set to a peppy soundtrack.
Finnegan,
With Richard Gere's rumored track record with pets, the prospects are a little alarming. (Poor taste alert).
Pappy's fella-
We love your choice of celebrity - four paws up! My human remembers a story about a little dog in England that was sorta similar, we think his name was Greyfriars Bobby. It was a book and a Disney movie years ago - great story but a movie was a bit of a stretch.
Oh and my dad says we are going to think about an oceanic version of this Geocache thing. We just heard a local diver found a "pirate" cannon not far from where we boat and dive in Marblehead MA - Dad seems think there are lots of ways to make this work - even keeping the "loot" dry. Only time will tell - once my humans get in the boat all sanity goes out the window!
Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!!
Dory
Mom read a story similar to that in 'Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul'. Except in that story, the guy gave the dog up. The train station bit is the same though.

P.S. Happy Memorial Day weekend.
Dory and Liza,
I have fond memories of visiting Marblehead, MA as a kid on my way to Maine. An old friend of my father's had a pretty fantastic home on the beach there. Lucky dog.
Sweets,
Train stations may be a popular destination for dogs... a lot of outdoor vendors, and a lot of food.
