Stress on the Repetitive

Over the past few months I've been noting a painful twinge in my right wrist. At times it has been bad enough to keep me from doing things-- for example my kayaking while visiting Maine this summer was at a minimum. It's gotten bad enough that the sports medicine doctor looking after my achilles tendon recommended an MRI.

The potential causes of this affliction? It doesn't seem to be carpal tunnel, so I can keep blogging away. I can think of two possiblities-- Pappy or Pappy. Either his antics chasing after cats and lunging at dogs while on leash caught me at a bad angle, or I'm a victim of ball tossing. I'm pretty certain it was the latter, because we are talking about hundreds of hours of fetch. I would get a little bored from time to time, and would try my fast ball, then trick shots ricocheting off of trees, then the long bomb the length of the dog park, then the misdirection throw over the shoulder or around the back. I'm like the one man Harlem Globetrotters of chucking.

The MRI didn't turn up anything, so I've just been resting the wrist. I've been working at throwing with my left arm, but the results are pretty feeble and can end up just about anywhere within a 180 degree range. I have yet to throw behind myself, but I'm sure that's coming. Pappy got me a Chuckit ball sling for my birthday, but that doesn't seem much less stressful on my wrist than throwing. Occasionally I gingerly throw with my right arm, and it's pure bliss. Those were the glory days.

I must say you are doing a great job, Nat.

I am a dog lover and have commented to your post Fair Weather Dog. Interesting one. Also check out my blogs mention in the comment to Fair Weather Dog.

Hope your wrist feels better soon. We're glad the MRI didn't turn anything up. My humans just went kayaking up in South Arm, ME. It was very peaceful.

If you're like me, it doesn't matter where the ball goes or how fancy the throw, it's just being with My Boy that makes the game special.

Except for that throw-the-ball-not-really-fool-the-dog pitch. I never have figured out why that one makes My Boy laugh so much, but whatever makes him happy...

Sure, blame the dog. Our Mom blames us for everything too.

Woof, Pappy

I was just randomly surfing youtube.. as us pups do.. and I found your DWB Christmas and anniversary videos! Just wanted to pop by and congratulate you on such excellent work.. Mum was howling with laughter. Maybe you could make one for our 1000th member celebrations??? hint hint!!

Sorry to hear about the whole wrist thing, if i was closer i could come drool some rotti-slobber on it, its a magical cure-all ointment (honestly!) Still at least you have a valid reason for not throwing the ball.. Mum has nothing wrong with her wrist and throws the ball anywhere but the direction she should be launching it in (and yes that includes behind her.. so never go bowling with her because the "behind" shot is pretty dangerous then) I think maybe she should get her eyes checked!!

Nice to mett you,

Ben xxxx

J1 has one muscular arm and one puny arm. Ah the joys of throwing a ball for me! Hope your wrist is getting better now. J X

Yeah, using the Chuckit can be strenuous! Of course my Buckwheat is totally ball obsessed. I have always say that when I find a man that loves me as much as Buckwheat loves the ball, I'll be set.

I'm looking into those big rubber balls that the dogs can chase around themselves.
